About Amira
My name is Amira and I have lived in Canterbury for sixteen years. I have three children of my own, the youngest is seven, and before them I helped to raise my brother's four children in Tripoli. So you can say I have been holding babies for twenty years now.
I am very calm. This is the main thing I want you to know about me. Crying does not upset me. Teething does not upset me. A toddler who throws his dinner on the floor does not upset me either, I pick it up and we try again in ten minutes. I have never once raised my voice at somebody else's child and I am not going to start at my age.
What happens in a normal afternoon with me. I come, you tell me what you need, then I get on with it. Fresh food, nothing from a packet, and the kitchen is clean after we cook. Bath, story, bed, in the order you tell me and at the time you tell me, not my own way. When you come home the house is tidy. I do not sit on my phone.
Babies I am very comfortable with, from newborn. I have done the four in the morning feed many many times. If your baby only settles one certain way, tell me the way and I will do exactly that. I am not one of these people who thinks she knows better than the mother.
I will be honest about one thing. My English spelling is not strong, so I am not the right person for helping an older child with their writing homework. Reading together is fine, I do that with my own.
I have my Working With Children Check and my First Aid, both current. I have my licence and a seven seater car, so if you are far from the station that is not a problem for me.
Arabic or English at home, whichever your family prefers. My own children answer me in English and I answer them in Arabic, so somehow we manage.
If you would like to meet first with the children before you book anything, I think this is a very good idea. I am happy to come for a coffee and there is no charge for that.

Retired learning support aide, patient on the tricky days
I worked as a learning support officer in primary schools for twenty six years, the last eleven of them in a support unit. Most of that time was spent with children who needed more from an adult than an ordinary school day allows.
