The badge, if you want it

Verification is free. You confirm a government photo ID with a matching selfie, and a person here checks your WWCC with the register that issued it, usually within 48 hours. Today we can check clearances issued in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory. The badge shows the month we checked, and it takes about five minutes of your time. Families can filter the list to verified profiles.

Questions babysitters ask

Do I need a Working With Children Check to babysit?
In New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania, not for casual, privately arranged babysitting in a family's own home. Queensland does require one for any paid babysitting. If you work as a nanny, au pair, or tutor, meaning regular ongoing care rather than the occasional evening, you do need one, and the parent is expected to verify it. Western Australia's WWC Check covers babysitters and nannies, unless it is an informal arrangement with relatives or friends. What it costs depends on the state: $112 in NSW for five years, and from $87 to $145 elsewhere. Where the line falls in NSW.
Do I need experience or qualifications to list?
No. Your profile has room for years of experience, first aid if you hold it, and what you're comfortable with. Parents read that and decide who to message. Say what is true; the first conversation tends to check it.
How do I get verified?
Opt in from your profile once you have listed. You confirm a government photo ID with a matching selfie through Didit, our identity provider, which takes about two minutes, and give us your legal name, date of birth, and check number (and, for a Queensland blue card, its issue number). We then check your status with the register that issued it ourselves, usually within 48 hours. Today we can check clearances issued in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory. If it comes back cleared and the details match your ID, your badge goes live with the month we checked. It is free. Exactly what we check.
What does it cost?
Nothing. Listing is free, verification is free, and there is no commission on what you earn. Babysitters and nannies stay free permanently, and families do not pay anything either. Why the site is free.
How much should I charge?
Babysitters here usually ask between $33 and $40 an hour, going by the 589 profiles that state a rate. That is the middle of what families see, so it is a reasonable place to pitch yourself. Put a rate on your profile. Parents filter by it, and a profile without one is the easy one to skip. What moves a babysitting rate.
How do families get in touch?
Through messages on the site. Your profile shows your first name and last initial, your suburb, and your rate and availability. It never shows your address, phone number, or email. You decide what to share once you have talked to someone, and you can block anyone.
Am I employed by AusBabysitters?
No. Families arrange work with you directly and pay you directly. We are an introduction service, not an agency or an employer. You set your own rate, take the jobs you want, and answer to the family, not to us.
Does this work where I live?
You can list from any Australian suburb, and search runs on distance, so families always see whoever is nearest them. We started with eight suburbs in Sydney's Inner West.
