About Corinne
Fourteen years teaching. The first six were mainstream classrooms, the last eight in a support unit attached to a primary school, which is the job I should have been doing the whole time.
Autism, ADHD, global developmental delay, selective mutism, sensory processing, children who use AAC to talk and children who are not talking yet. I have worked with all of it, and a hard afternoon is not going to throw me or offend me.
If your child has a plan, whether that is a behaviour support plan, an OT program or a communication book, send it through before the booking and I will read it properly rather than skim it in the hallway on my way in. If you are still sitting in an assessment queue with no plan, no diagnosis and a lot of unsolicited advice from relatives, I understand that too, and you will not have to explain yourself to me.
The practical things families tend to want to know.
I do a slow transition instead of a countdown, because countdowns make some kids worse.
I will not force eye contact or an apology.
I can usually get a bath done without it turning into a wrestling match.
If your child has a safe food and it happens to be beige, then we are having the beige food and I am not going to make a thing of it.
I also sit for children with no additional needs at all, and honestly it is a bit of a holiday.
Weeknights and Saturdays. WWCC and first aid current through work. Some Auslan, enough to be useful, not enough to call myself fluent.
