About Delia
I have been a children's librarian with council for 24 years, twenty of them at the same branch. Long enough to have watched a fair few children go from the board book corner to borrowing novels, and then to bringing their own children in.
What the job actually is: story time twice a week, holiday programs every school break, and the reading group for the older ones on Thursdays. I read out loud properly, all the voices, and I have never once skipped a page.
My own two are grown and moved out (Newtown and Brisbane), which is how I have ended up with quiet evenings and nothing much to do with them.
I should be honest about what I am not. I am not a runner. If your children want someone to play backyard cricket for two hours, I am the wrong person. What I am good at is the sitting down half of it. Building the same tower nine times. Reading the same book four nights running without complaint. Getting a child who has decided not to speak to speak.
I have done a lot of work with children who find noise and crowds hard, because the library is where a good many of them end up on a Saturday, so that is familiar ground.
Italian at home growing up, so I can manage that if it is useful at your place.
The practical parts. WWCC current through work and I keep my first aid up. I drive but I would rather walk, so Petersham, Lewisham, Stanmore and Dulwich Hill are the easy ones. The library has me Tuesday to Saturday, so Mondays and Sundays are my free days, plus most weeknights after six.

Final year nursing student, paediatric placement
