The role

We're a warm, busy family of four (5 including our cavoodle) in Greensborough looking for a steady, kind-hearted person to support our household while Dad is away touring with a show from December through to around May. Mum works full-time from home, so we need someone reliable who can help keep the week running smoothly and be a genuine, positive presence for our two girls (ages 12 and 16) — less "nanny," more an experienced extra pair of hands and a friendly face they can count on.

We’re keen for someone who can build connection, not just supervise. Someone who can help take the pressure off afternoon school runs and homework, pitch in with light cooking and tidying, and importantly be someone our 12-year-old genuinely enjoys spending time with. Friday is the anchor day: Mum takes our eldest to rep basketball that evening, so we need someone dedicated to being with our 12-year-old from dinner time until  late evening.

What you'd be doing

  • Doing school pick up and starting after school routines.

  • Some light school/activity transport as needed

  • Light meal prep/cooking and general tidying to help the house tick over

  • Homework support and general encouragement to keep things on track

  • Being a calm, engaged companion for our neurodivergent 12-year-old — she loves board/card and video games, drawing, painting, baking and craft, K-pop and music generally, so someone who can join in goes a long way

  • Helping the week feel manageable rather than overwhelming — noticing when things are getting on top of the girls (or Mum) and stepping in with a steady hand

  • Friday evenings with 12-year-old while Mum and eldest are at basketball (note: this can go until after 11pm)

  • We have a friendly 7 year old Cavoodle, so occasionally joining the girls on dog walks

Who we're looking for

  • Experience with neurodivergence and anxiety in children/teens

  • Patient, warm, and comfortable building genuine rapport with a tween and a teenager

  • Reliable transport and a clean driving record

  • Confident with light household duties (cooking, tidying)

  • Able to help with homework across a range of subjects

  • Available every Friday, afternoon to late evening; happy to talk through which other afternoon work best for you

  • Working With Children Check (or willing to obtain one), and happy to provide references

What's on offer

  • A genuinely lovely family who will treat you as part of the team, not "the help"

  • Consistent part-time hours across a defined 6-month period (approx.7-8 hours per week)

  • Pay negotiable depending on experience

  • The chance to make a real difference to two great kids and a mum juggling a lot

Questions babysitters and nannies ask

Do I need a Working With Children Check to babysit?
In New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania, not for casual, privately arranged babysitting in a family's own home. Queensland does require one for any paid babysitting. If you work as a nanny, au pair, or tutor, meaning regular ongoing care rather than the occasional evening, you do need one, and the parent is expected to verify it. What it costs depends on the state: $112 in NSW for five years, and from $87 to $145 elsewhere. Where the line falls in NSW. How to become a babysitter in Australia covers the start.
How do I get verified?
Opt in from your profile once you have listed. You confirm a government photo ID with a matching selfie through Didit, our identity provider, which takes about two minutes, and give us your legal name, date of birth, and check number (and, for a Queensland blue card, its issue number). We then check your status with the register that issued it ourselves, usually within 48 hours. Today we can check clearances issued in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory. If it comes back cleared and the details match your ID, your badge goes live with the month we checked. It is free. Exactly what we check.
What does it cost?
Nothing. Listing is free, verification is free, and there is no commission on what you earn. Babysitters and nannies stay free permanently, and families do not pay anything either. Why the site is free.
How much should I charge in Greensborough?
Babysitters and nannies already listed in Greensborough are asking between $20 and $70 an hour, across 43 profiles that state a rate. That is what families here are seeing, so it is a reasonable place to pitch yourself. Put a rate on your profile. Parents filter by it, and a profile without one is the easy one to skip. What moves a babysitting rate. How much to charge for babysitting is for when you are the one saying the number.
How do families get in touch?
Through messages on the site. Your profile shows your first name and last initial, your suburb, and your rate and availability. It never shows your address, phone number, or email. You decide what to share once you have talked to someone, and you can block anyone.
