In New South Wales and Victoria, not for casual, privately arranged babysitting in a family's own home. Some states do require one for any paid babysitting: Queensland, the ACT and the NT. If you work as a nanny, au pair, or tutor, meaning regular ongoing care rather than the occasional evening, you do need one, and the parent is expected to verify it. What it costs depends on the state: in NSW $112 for five years, in Victoria $139.20 for five years.

How do I get verified?

We then check your status with the register that issued it ourselves, usually within 48 hours. Today we can check clearances issued in New South Wales and Victoria.
