Our two children, a four-year-old boy and an eight-month-old girl, need a nanny for a few mornings and afternoons each week in Rodd Point. We’re looking at Tuesday mornings and Thursday and Friday mornings and afternoons, for a few hours each session.

The role

Take our son to preschool and pick him up.
Spend time with our daughter and look after both children, including trips to local parks and cafes.
Keep the children entertained and active. Arts and crafts and sports activities are welcome.
Help with some light household duties, though caring for the children is the main focus.

Babysitter needed in Leichhardt

Mon–Fri evenings, Sat and Sun all day

Looking for casual help as I am a single mum and need assistance with daycare pick ups some evenings until I get home from work. Also want someone who can do casual babysitting on weekends when required. My daughter is 3 and an absolute delight. When you’re looking after her she loves reading books, playing games and doing puzzles, blowing bubbles outside, drawing and doing craft.

Children: 1 daughter, 3 years old
Rate guide: $30-35/hour

Questions babysitters and nannies ask

Do I need a Working With Children Check to babysit?

In New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania, not for casual, privately arranged babysitting in a family's own home. Queensland does require one for any paid babysitting. If you work as a nanny, au pair, or tutor, meaning regular ongoing care rather than the occasional evening, you do need one, and the parent is expected to verify it. Western Australia's WWC Check covers babysitters and nannies, unless it is an informal arrangement with relatives or friends. What it costs depends on the state: $112 in NSW for five years, and from $87 to $145 elsewhere. Where the line falls in NSW. How to become a babysitter in Australia covers the start.

How do I get verified?

Opt in from your profile once you have listed. You confirm a government photo ID with a matching selfie through Didit, our identity provider, which takes about two minutes, and give us your legal name, date of birth, and check number (and, for a Queensland blue card, its issue number). We then check your status with the register that issued it ourselves, usually within 48 hours. Today we can check clearances issued in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory. If it comes back cleared and the details match your ID, your badge goes live with the month we checked. It is free. Exactly what we check.

What does it cost?

Nothing. Listing is free, verification is free, and there is no commission on what you earn. Babysitters and nannies stay free permanently, and families do not pay anything either. Why the site is free.

How much should I charge in Rodd Point?

Babysitters and nannies already listed in Rodd Point are asking between $15 and $65 an hour, across 232 profiles that state a rate. That is what families here are seeing, so it is a reasonable place to pitch yourself. Put a rate on your profile. Parents filter by it, and a profile without one is the easy one to skip. What moves a babysitting rate. How much to charge for babysitting is for when you are the one saying the number.

How do families get in touch?

Through messages on the site. Your profile shows your first name and last initial, your suburb, and your rate and availability. It never shows your address, phone number, or email. You decide what to share once you have talked to someone, and you can block anyone.
