Do I have to check my nanny's Working With Children Check?

Yes. For regular ongoing care the duty to verify sits with you, because there is no employer to hand it to. Ask for their family name and card number, and check it with the Service Victoria status checker before the first day. It is free and takes about two minutes. Victoria does not write to you afterwards, so the answer is true on the day you run it.

What does the verified badge on a nanny's profile mean?

The badge means we checked their ID and their WWCC with Service Victoria ourselves, not that they ticked a box. It is the check you would run yourself, already done once. A check is only true on the day it is run, so for ongoing care run your own as well: it is free with Service Victoria and takes about two minutes.
