A nanny needs a Working With Children Check and you are the one expected to verify it. A privately arranged babysitter in your own home is not legally required to hold one.

Ask for their WWC number, family name, and date of birth, and check it on the Office of the Children’s Guardian site before the first day. It is free and takes about two minutes. Once you have verified someone, the Office tells you if their status changes.

The badge means we checked their ID and their WWCC with the NSW Children's Guardian ourselves, not that they ticked a box. It is the WWCC check you would run yourself, already done once. For ongoing care still run your own, because verifying it in your name is what gets you told if their status later changes. We do not check references, first aid certificates, or claimed experience. Those sit on a profile as the nanny's own statement, labelled that way.
